SCARY TIMES // the new Christopher Macarthur-Boyd stand-up special
Premiering live on the Some Laugh YouTube channel on June 22nd 2025 at 8pm BST as part of Summer Laugh! + new London date, Here Comes The Guillotine news, and new music recommendations
To the CMB x As You Werewolves,
I’m buzzing to announce that my stand-up comedy special Scary Times is going to premiere live on the Some Laugh YouTube channel on Sunday June 22nd 2025 at 8pm BST as part of a series of specials called Summer Laugh.
Mine’s comes out on the 22nd, and then every Sunday after that, there’s a crowdwork show from Marc Jennings called “Crowd/Marc”, then Liam Withnail’s show Live At Monkey Barrel, and then my pal Rosco Mcclelland’s special Slug Nudger, and then, finally, Stuart McPherson’s show Horse, which is really good. I’m proud to be putting my show out with these boys! They’re all very funny, and we’ve known each other for more than ten years.
Thank you to everybody who came to see Scary Times show on tour, whether it was on the night in Glasgow at the Pavilion to more than a thousand bees from the CMB-Hive, or from it’s two runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, or in as far flung locales as Dublin, Cardiff, Southampton, or Portree on the Isle of Skye.
I can honestly say that the set that got recorded in Glasgow was not just one of the best sets of my life, but one of the best nights of my life. If you’ve seen the show already, or you couldn’t make it, or you’re a more recent convert to As You Werewolfpack, I can’t wait for you to see it.
I’ll do another more in-depth behind-the-scenes type Substack on the actual release day for the special.
Put it in your diary, and I’ll see you there in the premiere chat.
EXTRA LONDON DATE ADDED
Tickets are flying for my London work-in-progress shows at The Bill Murray in Angel and Downstairs At The Kings Head in Crouch End, so I’ve stuck on another London date at the Amersham Arms with Happy Mondays Comedy.
The work-in-progress shows have been brilliant so I’m buzzing for this run of Workstopher Incarthur Progroyd shows, and obviously you can get tickets for my actual Fringe run at Monkey Barrel Comedy in Edinburgh during August as well.

HERE COMES THE GUILLOTINE
Thank you so much to all the Guilloteens out there who have continued to listen to Here Comes The Guillotine podcast with Frankie and Susie in their droves. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of!
We’re going to experiment with a few episodes of something a wee bit different soon (a few tabletop roleplaying sessions with secret special guests! Wow!) so please bear with us as the format fluctuates, and thanks for coming out in full force to the live podcast shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen in March. They were some of the best nights of my life as a comedian.
Normal service will resume! But until then, I hope you enjoy Here Comes The Mighty Winged Helm of Balathor, which will be with you very shortly.
ASSORTED MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS
I recommended a few albums in the last missive from this particular branch of Arancini Towers, and stand by my suggestions that you listen to LONELY PEOPLE IN POWER by DEAFHEAVEN, GRAND VOYAGE by TAPEWORMS, VIAGR ABOYS by VIAGRA BOYS, and WHO WILL LOOK AFTER THE DOGS? by PUP.
However, I would like to also add TRACES by COSMIC EAR to the mix. This is a supremely listenable grab bag of Scandinavian free jazz that is good background music if you’re tunnelling through the earth, or investigating a seemingly impossible murder. Also, I’m a big fan of Floridian fifth-wave queer emo-country band HOME IS WHERE and their new record HUNTING SEASON is chock-full of very funny sad lyrics and pleading yodeling and lap pedal guitar and great songwriting. The hardest of recommends. In addition, I’ve been digging FLICKERING RESONANCE by the original line-up of PELICAN, the post-doom instrumental metal band. Very nice heavy music to get exquisitely chonged to in the park, on a sunny day.
If you have any music recommendations of your own, stick them in the comment section!
Anyway, that’s me!
Yours sincerely,
Peace and love in the new millennium,
Bisou-bisou,
Christopher Macarthur-Boyd
CMB x As You Were
P.S. Sorry for the delay on this! I like to use CMB x As You Were to break news on stuff and give you’s a sneak peak in advance of things but I got slightly concussed last week, and then had to deal with a dental emergency this week, so I’m a bit behind. Thanks for reading!
