“HERE COMES THE GUILLOTINE”: LIVE SHOWS!
Plus pre-sale, Letterboxd, Goodreads and some other stuff
Dear As You Werewolves,
I am delighted to announce that me, Frankie Boyle and Susie McCabe are going to be doing live Here Comes The Guillotine podcast shows in Spring 2025 in Scotland!
We are bringing the conversational heat to His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen on the 1st of March, the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow on the 18th of March, and the Edinburgh Playhouse on the 22nd of March. Expect in-depth discussions of Thatcherism, the Irish diaspora, and male reproductive fluid, from the D-Generation X of Scottish comedy. (I’m Chyna.)
I believe tickets for these gigs will go on sale on Friday morning at 9 am. However, as an As You Werewolf, PRE-SALE access for these shows goes live on Wednesday morning at 9am, giving you first dibs. Just click here!
I just braved five hours on a Scotrail train from Aberdeen actually, having done my Scary Times show at a beloved jazz club there called The Blue Lamp. I would say, conservatively, that in the last twelve years I’ve done stand-up there about fifty times, usually as part of a line-up. It’s a brilliant venue. We sold it out with the solo show, which was lovely, as it almost makes up for the time I was doing a Christmas party gig there in 2015 and a coked-up oil worker in a festive jumper pushed on the revolving door at the entrance while I was inside it, knocking me to the ground, where he stood on me. In heaven, I will be choking the life from him with his tinsel cravat, forever.
(Apologies to the folk who had tickets to see me at the extra Blue Lamp show on the 29th, but we’ve had to cancel that as I’m hosting a stand-up show in Edinburgh for BBC Scotland that’ll air on Hogmanay called Scotland Stands Up. I’ll talk a wee bit more about that in a later CMB x As You Were.)
(Also: I wanted to extend an offer to any As You Werewolves that read the newsletter to follow me on Goodreads and Letterboxd where I’ve been posting little reviews of books I read, and films I see. I’ll follow you back! Also, I’ve trepidatiously started posting on bluesky, because The Social Media Platform Formerly Known As Twitter isn’t entirely without thrills, but they are truly becoming fewer and far between.)
The tour in general has been absolutely brilliant, particularly the Thursday night show in Dundee, the Whelan’s show in Dublin, the Upstairs show in Inverness, the four Monkey Barrel solo shows at the Fringe, and the one in Cumbernauld. All the shows have been really good fun, but those ones especially set my soul on fire. And we’ve still got plenty of tour shows left for this autumn!
SCARY TIMES ‘24
October 26th - DUMFRIES - Theatre Royal
November 2nd - EDINBURGH - Monkey Barrel
November 8th - GLASGOW - Pavilion Theatre
November 9th - BELFAST - Metropolitan Arts Centre
November 26th - CARDIFF - The Glee Club
November 27th - SOUTHAMPTON - The Attic
November 28th - BRISTOL - Basement 45
We’re taping the big Glasgow show as an hour-long comedy special, and I think the circle is going to completely sell out in the next few days, and then we’re going to stick the actual balcony on-sale, so there’s plenty of brilliant seats left.
And for any fans of my other on-hiatus podcast ENJOY AN ALBUM, me and Liam are going to be back in the studio cooking something up. Peace and love in the new millennium!
Cheers,
CMB x As You Were
